You see, one easy Sunday afternoon in October 2019, I was browsing the internet, searching for coffee when I stumbled upon a blog post that led me to a website engagingly titled, ‘one more cup of coffee’. I naively thought that it would be about coffee, given my search words in Google but alas! It was not.
Instead, I found myself totally caught up in the life, experiences and knowledge of a successful, young, internet marketing blogger. There he was sharing his thoughts about how he had transformed his life by starting an online business years ago.
I was captivated by his sheer honesty. Unlike many others he did not say that this path was an easy one. Instead, he offered an opportunity to have a look, take some lessons, create a website and begin the online entrepreneur journey, all for free.
Even though he said, ‘for free’, I was apprehensive. Being curious, I clicked on the line that said:

When The Student Is Ready
2019 was a pivotal year for me. There was a lot going on my life and many changes that would directly impact my future and the legacy that I was building for my daughter. I did not plan to be a single parent. Our choices lead us into situations that create events and opportunities for us to challenge ourselves and build resilience. That year, I was building a lot of resilience.
Being a single parent means that you have to be the income earner, sole lead teacher, supporter, friend, nurturer, companion – everything rests solely on your shoulders. Trying to continue to grow and develop yourself while having to invest most of your time and effort into shaping the life of a child can be tough when you are on your own.
In my humble opinion, one of the most effective ways to achieve manageable balance is to have the flexibility of working from home. That was my ultimate objective.
I no longer wanted the drudgery of the daily office commute, back and forth. Or the responsibilities and confinement that accompanied having to manage an offline business. I wanted the flexibility and freedom to work when and how I wanted and to have the time I needed to support my home, daughter and healthy lifestyle.
The World Of Content And Affiliate Marketing
By November 2019, I was convinced that I had discovered a gold investment. I became a Premium Member at Wealthy Affiliate (WA) and was more than halfway through the Online Entrepreneur Certification (OEC) course. My first website was up and indexed by Google.
The training makes the learning simple and addictive. For the first time I was able to understand what passive earning was. Through the support of the WA Community, I as gaining insight to how some of the world’s most successful content and affiliate marketers were achieving their success.
When you think about passive investments and earnings, the first thing that comes to mind is probably interest on investments and dividends from stocks. Content and affiliate marketing offer many diverse income streams and all can be learned and mastered at WA.
I followed the training as closely as I could and did everything as instructed. The blog posts from my first niche website were being indexed by Google, Bing and Yahoo swiftly and were ranking on page 1. Often times, they would rank number 1.
To say that I was ecstatic would be putting it mildly.
Officially A Blogger
All through my career, I was seen as a good writer. I majored in English Language and English Literature, getting an A in both. At my career peak, I was the Vice President of a major gas company with responsibility for Human Resources and Corporate Communications.
I wrote daily. Whenever an important document or article required editing, I was the point person. So, I thought that writing for the internet would be a piece of cake!
Little did I know that my stiff upper lip way of writing and communicating would bring many writing block days as a blogger. I was intimidated by the ease with which these content and affiliate marketers wrote and structured their messages.
Research was a way of life and they navigated this multi-billion people market effortlessly. I was jealous. No! I was deeply envious. I was determined to make the transition into blogging space and be recognised for my engagement.
After 2 months, I had churned out almost 40,000 words, according to Grammarly. That’s 40 by 1,000-word blog posts. Not bad for a 6-week newcomer. It felt great to see my progress which was reflected in my rising rank at WA and my growing network.
The Gold Mine Is The Community
The WA Community is a melting pot of global online entrepreneurs, experienced and new, who share their knowledge and expertise with each other. We are very supportive of each other and do our best to ensure that help and guide one another as much as possible.
Having lived and worked all over the world, I never thought that I would ever find such a remarkable community with an alive and almost unbreakable ‘pay-it-forward‘ culture. 
All the WA members create new content every day. This could be a blog post, a tutorial, a video training – all content is welcome and supported. Content could relate to anything within the online world.
